One of the great things about running a company that conducts business via the Internet is you can work anywhere that you can get an Internet connection. This week, for three days, my wife and I stayed in a cabin on the Edisto River about 60 miles inland from Charleston, South Carolina, USA. The Edisto is the only free flowing blackwater river on the North American continent. Blackwater just means that there is a lot of tannin in the water, making it very dark brown, almost black. The only other place I've seen it is in swamps in North Carolina just south of Chesapeake, Virginia. It is quite...

Migrate to TYPO3 with the Right Agency

Yet Another Reason to Migrate to TYPO3 with the Right AgencyLast week, I wrote about a company that had had a custom CMS built for them. The design was very nice, but it was an essentially unusable site. They had wasted their money on a web site they couldn't easily update and maintain.A migration to TYPO3 was the solution. Using the standard TYPO3 core and extensions, no custom programming was required. The design was carried over, so it looked the same. A couple of hours of user training and the company's non-techie webmaster could now take care of the site on his own.Just yesterday, I ran...

tt_news single view PID
February 17, 2009 12:01 AM EST

By: Michael Cannon

Per tt_news documentation, through a page's TSConfig, you can set a news record to be previewed on a front-end page that contains a SINGLE view news content element.

If your articles preview page has page id 85, then add the following to the news storage folder TSConfig.

tx_ttnews.singlePid = 85

85 is determined by hovering your mouse over the page icon in the page tree and reading what number it says on via the title popup as id=85.

If you haven't already saved your news item before pressing the "Save document and view page" icon, the article won't show up on the front-end....

Even with the economy being in the tank, sluggish, pathetic, not quite right or whatever you want to call it; it is what it is. Your response to the economy and how you handle though, is all you.

For Acqal, we've been moving out of direct TYPO3 development since that market has been softening and digging deeper into TYPO3 tutorials, TYPO3 templates and TYPO3 support in general. Of note, our TYPO3 security abilities has been generating much interest in response to last week's TYPO3 Security Bulletin.

Around these offerings we've been trying very hard to ensure that each client engagement...

Why Switch to TYPO3? A Mini-Case Study of a Site Migration

There are many reasons to switch to a content management system, particularly TYPO3. Here is one mini-case study about how a move to TYPO3 saved a company money and drastically improved their ability to make timely updates and changes to their web site.Who: High tech company that develops and deploys software for enterprise level applicationsThe Problem: This company employs highly talented programmers, as well as other, less technical, personnel. They engaged a web development company to build their web site. The site was programmed in PHP and included some difficult to manage graphical and...

Acqal's TYPO3 Clients Protected Within 8 Hours of Security Notice

February 10, 2009 11:10 PM EST

By: Michael Cannon

Within 8-hours of TYPO3 Security Bulletin TYPO3-SA-2009-002 being released, Acqal's team had their active client TYPO3 systems updated. Did your TYPO3 CMS provider do the same?

The security bulletin contained a critical fix to an

Information Disclosure vulnerability in jumpUrl mechanism, used to track access on web pages and provided files, allows a remote attacker to read arbitrary files on a host.

The expected value of a mandatory hash secret, intended to invalidate such requests, is exposed to remote users allowing them to bypass access control by providing...
