Poem: TYPO3 is of the community

TYPO3 is of the community and for the community. Together we succeed, apart we fail. With another year comes, us together in Frankfurt to join and raise a glass for a cheer. To new friends, new sites and new techniques. At the close, we go a little sad, a bit tired, but fuller of hope to a brighter future of more friends and growing success. – 9/11/2009 – Thinking about TYPO3’s future during the T3CON09 Frankfurt keynote.
Create limited page navigation with TypoScript

By: Michael Cannon
Creating inline navigation for your TYPO3 website is pretty straightforward. You can copy and paste the following TypoScript code into your TypoScript template's Setup section and then call lib.nav.top as needed into your TemplaVoila or TypoScript page template.
You can adjust what pages are shown by changing the PIDs in lib.nav.top.special.value.
lib.nav.top = HMENUlib.nav.top { special = list special.value = 22, 91, 20, 32 1 = TMENU 1 { NO { linkWrap = | | |*||*| | ATagTitle.field = description // title stdWrap.htmlSpecialChars = 1 } CUR < .NO CUR =...
Zenhabits: 8 Ways Doing Less Can Transform Your Work & Life

By: Michael Cannon
I’m a busy guy, living in a busy society and like you, constantly distracted by activities that want more of us than what we’ve got to give. A major goal of my moving to Taiwan was to focus on family life and Acqal success. For the most part, it’s worked.
I’d like to recap Zenhabits 8 ways of getting more out of work & life by describing how I’ve integrated them into my life. Hopefully, they’ll spark inspiration in you that can lead to more time to do what you want and happier clients as well.
1. Less hectic, busy schedule, less stress, more peace. Doing less leaves free to schedule...

T3CON09 officially started on Thursday morning with the tutorial sessions. I was torn between Ron Hall's "A Framework for TemplaVoila" and Riona Kuthe / Jochen Weiland's "How to customize the TYPO3 Backend for the needs of each editor." I ended up in Ron's tutorial and it was fantastic. Check out his TV framework at templavoila.busynoggin.com/.Here is how Ron explains it:"TemplaVoila is the most powerful of the TYPO3 templating methods. With this templating extension an experienced developer can produce sites with very flexible layout options for the content...
First Whack... Getting Redmine Running on CentOS 5

By: Michael Cannon
We're attempting to try out the Redmine project management software. It's gotten a good following among TYPO3 agencies for those not using dotProject. However, I've spent a good two days trying to get our TYPO3 PHP and MySQL oriented development environment ready to run Redmine.
It's not running yet
Getting this Ruby web program has been filled with nothing but one error after another that has sent me back to Google more times than I can count. I've read the Ruby book a while back, but never seriously programmed a web script. Hence, the frustration I feel for not getting far.
At this...
Reflections on T3CON09 Part 1

I know we promised to blog and Tweet during our trip to Frankfurt, but I never got around to doing a blog, we just had too much to do and were having too much fun. I did do a lot of tweets and uploaded pics to Flickr and my Facebook account.

Sitting on the plane, just passing Iceland and headed in the direction of Greenland, wearing my T3CON09 t-shirt (nice green with skyline of Frankfurt), I have some time to write about the past week. I am not as comfortable as I could be because my TYPO3 pillow is in my checked baggage. There was some cool swag this year. Speakers got a toaster...
Creating breadcrumb navigation with TypoScript
By: Michael Cannon
Creating breadcrumb navigation for your TYPO3 website is pretty straightfoward. You can copy and paste the following TypoScript code into your TypoScript template's Setup section and then call lib.nav.breadcrumb as needed into your TemplaVoila or TypoScript page template.
lib.nav.breadcrumb = HMENUlib.nav.breadcrumb { includeNotInMenu = 1 special = rootline 1 = TMENU 1 { NO = 1 NO { linkWrap = | » |*||*| | ATagTitle.field = description // title stdWrap.htmlSpecialChars = 1 } CUR < .NO CUR { doNotLinkIt = 1 stdWrap.htmlSpecialChars =...
Acqal donates to Give Us Wings

By: Nicole Johnson
With the inception of Acqal Corporation the executive team decided that even given the tough economic times, and the challenges of starting a business in the midst, it was important for us to give back. We assign a percentage of our profits to quarterly charity donations.
In the first quarter of the year Acqal donated to a local charity near our Augusta, SC office – Le Chat Noir. You can read more about this donation through Virgil Huston’s blog.
In the second quarter of this year we decided to donate to a charity local to our Minneapolis, MN office. Making a charity selection was equally...
