Dallas Barbeque Joint Reviews
By: Virgil Huston
I posted this on my personal blog, Cooking with Little Buddy, but figured it was relevant here :-)
I was in Dallas this week for the T3CON10 Dallas TYPO3 conference. As am a barbeque fanatic, I was eager to sample Texas fare. I know that Texas barbeque is not the same as in South Carolina, so was looking forward to brisket in particular. We went to two barbeque places. The night I got in, I met up with our Chief Technical Officer and his wife. I am from South Carolina, the CTO is from the Netherlands, and Karina, his wife, is from Ecuador. We are all foodies.
We had no clue...
T3CON10 Dallas

By: Virgil Huston
I got into Dallas Wednesday late afternoon for T3CON10 Dallas, tried to meet Ries van Twisk (our CTO) and his wife, went from Terminal E to Terminal A and back, no one had heard of the flight number they were on. Finally took a taxi to the hotel and they arrived a few minutes later after trying to find me. I am not sure I've ever seen a city that was so spread out.
Today was tutorial day and an opportunity to meet people. As always, when I attend these events, one of the best things is actually meeting "face-to-face" people I have known for years on the Internet, not to mention...

Poem: TYPO3 is of the community

By: Michael Cannon
TYPO3 is of the community and for the community. Together we succeed, apart we fail. With another year comes, us together in Frankfurt to join and raise a glass for a cheer. To new friends, new sites and new techniques. At the close, we go a little sad, a bit tired, but fuller of hope to a brighter future of more friends and growing success. – 9/11/2009 – Thinking about TYPO3’s future during the T3CON09 Frankfurt keynote.
Reflections on T3CON09 Part 2
By: Virgil Huston
T3CON09 officially started on Thursday morning with the tutorial sessions. I was torn between Ron Hall's "A Framework for TemplaVoila" and Riona Kuthe / Jochen Weiland's "How to customize the TYPO3 Backend for the needs of each editor." I ended up in Ron's tutorial and it was fantastic. Check out his TV framework at templavoila.busynoggin.com/.Here is how Ron explains it:"TemplaVoila is the most powerful of the TYPO3 templating methods. With this templating extension an experienced developer can produce sites with very flexible layout options for the content...
Reflections on T3CON09 Part 1

By: Virgil Huston
I know we promised to blog and Tweet during our trip to Frankfurt, but I never got around to doing a blog, we just had too much to do and were having too much fun. I did do a lot of tweets and uploaded pics to Flickr and my Facebook account.

Sitting on the plane, just passing Iceland and headed in the direction of Greenland, wearing my T3CON09 t-shirt (nice green with skyline of Frankfurt), I have some time to write about the past week. I am not as comfortable as I could be because my TYPO3 pillow is in my checked baggage. There was some cool swag this year. Speakers got a toaster...

I love my new HP Mini and wrote this blog entry in a text editor using it. When I was done, I set the mini down and the battery decided to fall out. Not good. I get to now rewrite my entry. At least this isn't as bad as losing an entire research paper when I was in grad school. I think I might save as I go this time :-)
Acqal Exec Team Going to T3CON09
We are excited that the Acqal Executive Team will all be at T3CON09 in Frankfurt, for a variety of reasons. First is the conference itself, including tutorial day. The amount that may be learned is amazing and hard to describe. This year,...
Netbooks and Productivity
By: Virgil Huston
The reason I didn't get my usual blog posting out yesterday is because I was doing client work and then got preoccupied with getting my new HP Mini 1000 netbook up and running. This is one sweet little machine. My laptop has seen better days and is still quite useful, but not for toting around. For travel, I had a Verizon USB wireless card that was eligible for an upgrade. When I saw the deal on the HP Mini I jumped on it. Standard Verizon price for the mini with a two year contract ($59.95/mo for 5GB transfer, same as I was paying for the USB card) is $ 199. With the upgrade eligibility, it...
Random Thoughts: T3CON09, Lodging Woes, Germany, and TYPO3 Training

By: Virgil Huston
I am really looking forward to T3CON09. I get to see European friends and meet more, learn more and more about TYPO3, and I have an excuse to go to Germany. I love Europe, I would live there if it were practical. Hopefully, at least I will be able to retire there,Back in the day, I spent five years in Germany, in a small village called Merzalben, not far from Pirmasens, where I worked while a soldier in the US Army. We were 15 minutes from an unguarded border crossing to France, so also went there often (that was before the open borders).I was the only American in Merzalben, I was not one of...
